This site is read by children. So it collects as close to nothing as a website can, and what little it does collect cannot be traced back to a person.

What we collect

Counts of anonymous actions: a book page opened, a search run, a search that found nothing, a read-alike followed, a “was this helpful” tap, a click out to a library or bookshop. Each one is stored as the action and the time it happened. Searches also store the words searched for, so that Austin can see which books people want that she hasn't read.

What we do not collect

No names, no email addresses, no accounts, no IP addresses, no user-agent strings, no device or advertising identifiers, no session identifiers, no cookies, and no third-party analytics or advertising scripts of any kind. Nothing links one action to another, which means nothing can be assembled into a profile of a visitor.

What your browser stores

If you save your library for the Libby links, that preference is stored in your own browser and is never transmitted to this site. Clearing your browser data removes it. We never receive it and never had a copy.

Suggestions

If you suggest a book, we store the book and anything you typed in the note field, plus a one-way scrambled form of your IP address used only to stop the same source flooding the form. The raw address is never stored. Suggestions are never published with any attribution, because we have nothing to attribute them to.

How long we keep it

Anonymous counts: 24 months, then deleted. Search text: 12 months. Suggestions: 12 months after they are reviewed. Nothing is kept indefinitely.

Who we share it with

Nobody. It is not sold, rented, traded, or handed to an advertiser, because there are no advertisers. The site runs on Vercel and Supabase, who host the data on our behalf and do not use it.

Library, Libby and Bookshop.org links go to other companies with their own policies. Bookshop.org links may earn this site a small commission, which is marked wherever such a link appears.

Email hello@austinsbooknook.com. It reaches an adult. There is no account to delete and no profile to request, because neither exists — but if you believe something about you is on this site, write and it will be dealt with.
